Police in Cumilla have detained 252 people in their latest drive against teen gangs.
Md Lutfor Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Cumilla, confirmed this on Friday.
The district’s 18 police stations and the Detective Branch (DB) carried out the drive from Thursday evening until late at night.
District police sources said it was part of regular operations against teen gangs. Several police units raided at the same time places in Cumilla city and other police station areas identified as troubled by unruly teenagers and young men. Senior officers of the district police were present to supervise.
Lutfor Rahman said: “A total of 252 people were detained in the drive. Their involvement in any criminal activity will be checked and further action taken against them according to the law.”
In six such drives over the past 15 days, Cumilla’s law enforcers have detained a total of 2,291 people as part of the district police’s continuing campaign against teen gangs.
