সম্পাদকীয় নৈতিকতা · Editorial Ethics Policy

BD Global Times is committed to honest, independent, public-interest journalism for Bangladesh and its global diaspora. This Editorial Ethics Policy sets out the standards every member of our newsroom is held to. It complements our Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy.

Independence

Our editorial decisions are made by the newsroom alone. No advertiser, political party, government body, donor or other outside interest is permitted to influence what we report or how we report it. Where a story touches our owners or commercial partners, we disclose that relationship to readers.

Accuracy and verification

We verify before we publish. Facts are checked against primary sources wherever possible, and significant claims are confirmed with more than one independent source. We do not publish rumour as fact. When information cannot be independently verified, we say so plainly.

Sourcing and attribution

We attribute information to its source so readers can judge its weight. We prefer named, on-the-record sources; anonymity is granted only when a source faces a genuine risk and the information is of clear public interest, with an editor’s approval. Wire and partner reporting (for example Reuters, AFP, AP) is credited in the text. We do not pass off other outlets’ reporting as our own.

Corrections and accountability

When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. Significant corrections are noted on the article. Readers can request a correction through our contact page; see our Corrections Policy for how we handle them.

Conflicts of interest

Our journalists avoid financial, political or personal interests that could compromise — or appear to compromise — their impartiality. Staff do not accept gifts, payments or favours that could be seen to influence coverage, and recuse themselves from stories in which they have a personal stake.

Fairness and right of reply

People and organisations facing criticism or allegations in our reporting are given a fair and timely opportunity to respond, and their response is reflected in the story. We distinguish clearly between reporting, analysis and opinion.

Sensitive reporting

We take particular care with the vulnerable. We protect the identity of children, and of survivors of violence and sexual assault. We report deaths, conflict, disasters and communal tension with restraint and dignity, avoiding gratuitous or graphic detail and imagery. We do not inflame communal, religious or ethnic division.

Privacy

We respect individual privacy and intrude on private life only where there is a clear, overriding public interest. Personal data obtained in the course of reporting is handled responsibly and is not published without justification.

Originality and plagiarism

Plagiarism and fabrication are firing offences. All copy must be original or properly attributed. Images and other material are used only with the right to do so, and are credited.

Our editorial lens

We report for Bangladesh and its diaspora with a Global South perspective: local stories told with local knowledge, and international stories told with relevance to our readers. We value a plurality of voices and guard against stereotype.

Ownership and funding

BD Global Times is published by MD Global Media Corporation. Our masthead and ownership are disclosed on our masthead page.

Contact

Questions, concerns or complaints about our journalism are welcome via our contact page. We take ethical concerns seriously and respond to them.
