This policy explains what information BD Global Times collects, why, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. Each section opens with a summary in Bengali; the full policy follows in English, and where the two differ the English text applies.

১. সাইট ভিজিট · Visiting the site

Like any website, our web server records each request it receives: your IP address, your browser and device type, the page requested, the page you came from, and the time. We use these records to keep the site secure, to block abuse and automated traffic, and to fix faults. They are kept for up to two months and then deleted, unless a specific record is needed for longer to investigate a security incident. If a page fails in your browser, the browser sends us an error report (the page, the error, your browser and your IP address) so that we can fix it; we delete these reports after 60 days. Our lite edition (/lite/) sets no cookies and runs no third-party analytics; we count its page views as daily totals (section 2a).

We use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google, to understand how many people read us and which stories they read. It runs in Google’s consent mode. Until you answer our cookie notice it stores nothing on your device — no cookie and no identifier — and sends Google only a cookieless signal that a page was viewed, with the time, the page you came from, general browser and device information, and a coarse location worked out from your IP address; Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses. If your device is set to a European time zone (which we use in place of your location), not even that signal is sent until you accept. If you decline, Google Analytics does not run at all. If you accept, it also sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_…, lasting up to two years) so that a return visit can be recognised, and Google may use Google Signals to connect visits by people signed in to a Google account with ad personalisation turned on, for aggregate reports about our audience. We keep event-level analytics data for two months and user-level data for fourteen months. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

Google Analytics cannot count readers who have not accepted cookies, so we also count readers ourselves, on our own server. When a page has been on your screen for two seconds, your browser tells our server what kind of page it is (for a story: which story, its section and its language), where your visit came from (for example a search engine, Facebook or one of our campaign links), whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer, and, as you read, how far you got, whether you shared the story and whether you went on to another one. Nothing is stored on your device: no cookie and no identifier. Our server keeps only daily totals, such as how many times a story was read on a given day and where those readers came from. Nothing in those totals identifies you, and we keep them as a record of our readership. To count how many different people visited in a day, the server makes a one-day code from your IP address, your browser details and a random value created for that day. The code and the value are kept only in the server’s short-term cache, never in our database or its backups, and both are deleted ten minutes after the day ends (midnight, Bangladesh time); after that the code cannot be traced back to anyone. The counter does not store your IP address; the request itself appears in the web server’s log like any other (section 1). Nothing is sent if you decline cookies, or if your device is set to a European time zone and you have not accepted. Our topic pages and English front page count a view by loading a one-pixel image, under the same rule. The lite edition runs no scripts and shows no cookie notice, so it counts every view that way, whatever you chose elsewhere on the site. The image sets no cookie and tells us only the page, its language and where the visit came from; no one-day code is made for it.
৩. মেটা পিক্সেল · Meta Pixel
ফেসবুক ও ইনস্টাগ্রাম থেকে কতজন পাঠক আসেন তা মাপতে আমরা মেটা পিক্সেল ব্যবহার করি — শুধু আপনি সম্মতি দিলে। সম্মতি না দিলে এটি চালুই হয় না।
Only if you accept cookies, we load the Meta Pixel, a service of Meta Platforms. It tells Meta that a page or article was viewed on our site, or that someone signed up for our newsletter, so that we can measure how many readers reach us through Facebook and Instagram and whether our posts there are working. Meta may set a cookie (_fbp, lasting up to three months) and may connect this information to a Facebook or Instagram account under its own policy, including to show BD Global Times posts to people who have visited our site. If you decline, the Meta Pixel does not load at all. Meta’s privacy policy: facebook.com/privacy/policy.

নিউজলেটারে সাইন আপ করলে আপনার ইমেইল (নাম দিলে নামও), কোন পেজ থেকে ও কখন সাইন আপ করেছেন, এবং অপব্যবহার রোধে আইপি ঠিকানা ও ব্রাউজারের ধরন আমাদের নিজস্ব সার্ভারে থাকে। সাইন আপের পর নিশ্চিত করার একটি লিংক পাঠানো হয়; নিশ্চিত না করলে আর কিছু পাঠানো হয় না, এবং ৩০ দিন পর তথ্য মুছে যায়। আনসাবস্ক্রাইব করলে নাম, আইপি ও ব্রাউজারের তথ্য সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মুছে যায়; সম্মতির প্রমাণ হিসেবে ইমেইল ও তারিখ তিন বছর রাখা হয়। আমরা তা বিক্রি করি না, কাউকে দিই না। প্রতিটি ইমেইলে এক ক্লিকে আনসাবস্ক্রাইব করার লিংক থাকে।
If you sign up for our morning briefing, we store your email address, your name if you give it, the page you signed up from and when, the wording of the sign-up you agreed to, and your IP address and browser type (to prevent abuse and to keep a record of your consent). This is kept on our own server. We do not sell it or give it to anyone, and no email-marketing company receives it. We will use it only to send you the briefing you asked for and messages about it. When you sign up we email you a link to confirm, and nothing else is sent unless you click it. The briefing is sent from our own server, not through an email-marketing service, and every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email us at any time and we will remove you. A sign-up that is not confirmed is deleted after 30 days. When you unsubscribe, we delete your name, IP address and browser type at once, and keep your email address, the page and dates of your sign-up and the wording you agreed to for three years, as our record of your consent (Canada’s anti-spam law puts the proof of consent on us) and so that you are not mailed again; then we delete them. Readers who signed up before 25 September 2026, when confirmation links began, receive the briefing without one; every issue lets them unsubscribe in one click.

If you turn on breaking-news alerts on our Follow page, your browser gives us a push subscription: an address at your browser maker’s push service (for example Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft) and the keys needed to encrypt alerts to it. We store it with your browser type and language in order to send alerts, which are delivered through that push service. It does not contain your name, email address or IP address. You can turn alerts off at any time on the Follow page or in your browser’s settings for our site; a subscription that is turned off, or stops working, receives nothing further and is deleted after 30 days.
৬. নামাজের সময় · Prayer times
পেজের উপরের নামাজের সময় আপনার ব্রাউজার সরাসরি Aladhan নামের একটি সেবা থেকে আনে — আপনার ডিভাইসের টাইম-জোন থেকে অনুমান করা শহরের জন্য। আমরা আপনার অবস্থান জানতে চাই না।
The prayer-times strip at the top of our pages is filled in by your browser asking the Aladhan service (api.aladhan.com) directly, for a city worked out from your device’s time-zone setting. We never ask for your location and never use your precise location. As with any website your browser contacts, Aladhan receives your IP address with that request. The result is kept on your device for the day.

To work properly the site keeps a few small items in your browser’s own storage — not cookies, and not sent to us — such as your cookie choice, your language (Bengali or English), banners you have closed, the day’s prayer times, a copy of recent headlines so pages open faster, the list of stories you have opened on this device (so that “Read next” does not offer them again), and a technical note that helps the site recover when a new version is released. They are not used to track you. Staff who sign in to our publishing system receive the login cookies that system needs; readers do not.
৮. ইমেইল, আবেদন ও অন্য সাইটের কনটেন্ট · Emails, applications and embedded content
ইমেইল করলে উত্তর দেওয়ার জন্য আমরা তা দুই বছর রাখি। চাকরি ও ইন্টার্নশিপের আবেদন নেওয়া হয় Jotform-এর মাধ্যমে। প্রতিবেদনে যুক্ত ইউটিউব বা ফেসবুকের মতো বাইরের কনটেন্ট সেসব প্রতিষ্ঠানের নীতিতে চলে।
If you email us, we keep your message and address in order to reply and, for corrections and complaints, as a record, for two years; longer only when a message is needed for a legal claim or a published correction. Internship and job applications linked from our site are collected through forms hosted by Jotform, whose privacy policy applies to what you submit there; we receive your application from Jotform. Articles sometimes embed material from other services, such as YouTube videos or Facebook and X posts; those services may collect information as if you had visited them directly.

কুকি-সিদ্ধান্ত বদলানো · Changing your cookie choice

You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. Google Analytics’ cookies, Google Signals and the Meta Pixel can be used to recognise you or to build a picture of your interests; they stay off until you choose Accept. Declining, or withdrawing consent you gave earlier, stops the Meta Pixel, Google Analytics and our own reader count in your browser, and removes the analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_…, _fbp) they set on our site; you can also delete cookies in your browser’s settings.

Our servers are in Montreal, Canada, run by our hosting provider, GloboTech Communications, which stores data on our behalf. Google, Meta and Jotform process the information described above on their own systems, and browser makers’ push services deliver our alerts; these may be outside Canada and outside Québec, including in the United States. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we share it with nobody else unless the law requires it — for example, under a valid court order.

Every page is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to personal information is limited to the staff who need it. We keep backups so that it is not lost, for up to 14 days, and we keep a record of every security incident. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach put your information at risk, we would tell you, and the relevant authorities, as the law requires.

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it; you can withdraw consent at any time. Email info@bdglobaltimes.com. We will answer within 30 days, and may need to confirm that a request comes from the person the information is about. Our Privacy Officer reviews every request and complaint and answers within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca); in Québec, to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca); or to the data-protection authority where you live.

If you read us from the European Union or the United Kingdom, MD Global Media Corporation (address above) is the controller of your information. We rely on your consent for Google Analytics’ cookies, the Meta Pixel, our own reader count in your browser (sent only after you accept), the newsletter and breaking-news alerts; you can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect what was done before. We rely on our legitimate interests for the web server’s records and browser error reports (security and fixing faults), the daily page totals of the lite edition, and answering your emails; you can object to that use. You can also ask for the information you gave us in a portable format. Your information is held in Canada, which the European Commission and the United Kingdom recognise as protecting it adequately for organisations, like ours, covered by Canada’s federal privacy law. Google and Meta move data to the United States under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Google also under its UK Extension) and standard contractual clauses. You can complain to the data-protection authority where you live; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commission.
