CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — Police in Jashore’s Chougachha upazila have detained an Awami League leader and four other men during an overnight operation Monday, officers said.
Those detained include Alauddin, 62, joint general secretary of the Swarupdah union Awami League and son of the late Nur Islam of Mashila village in Swarupdah union; Ismail Hossain, 58, an alleged cannabis dealer and son of Shawkat Ali from Hajrakhana Khalpar in Narayanpur union; Rokon Uddin, 38, an alleged drug dealer and son of the late Lutfor Mondal from Arsingri Pukuria village in Sukhpukuria union; Jalal Uddin, 57, a convicted criminal and son of Torap Hossain from Jatrapur village in Hakimpur union; and Dukhu, 27, son of Shahidul Islam from Bhadra village in Dhuliani union, who was detained on suspicion of theft.
Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chougachha police station, confirmed the arrests and said the men had been sent to court.
