KALIGANJ, Bangladesh — A mobile court collected fines from butchers in Kaliganj after operations at meat shops, officials said. Under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, upazila assistant commissioner for land Shahin Alam conducted the mobile court Wednesday morning at meat shops in front of the municipality’s Hatchadni and food office.
Two butchers were each fined 1,500 taka, totaling 3,000 taka, for selling beef and goat meat in unsanitary conditions. Additionally, on Naldanga Road, a trader’s meat was buried in the ground as punishment for selling rotten meat.
Upazila assistant commissioner for land Shahin Alam said meat must be sold in sanitary conditions. “Otherwise, legal action may result in jail or fines,” he said.
Livestock officer Jillu Rine, municipal sanitary inspector Alamgir Hossain and members of Kaliganj police station were present during the operation.
