Iran’s military has ordered all commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to follow Iranian-designated maritime routes, warning of consequences for non-compliance.

In a statement published on Thursday, Iran’s military headquarters said the armed forces would respond swiftly and firmly to any US interference in the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Strait of Hormuz is not the playground of aggressive America; it is an undisputed part of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the statement said.

The military said maintaining the security and stability of the critical waterway is a “red line” for Iran’s armed forces.

Separately, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Tehran would deliver an “immediate and powerful response” to any threat against its people or senior leadership.

In a post on X, Araghchi said US President Donald Trump had promised to keep “his pets in Tel Aviv” under control. “If they disobey their master’s orders, Iran will teach them a lesson,” he wrote.

Araghchi’s post was a response to recent comments by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who had claimed that Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei had become a target for assassination.
