BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 71 lakh on Sylhet border

Border Guard Bangladesh (48 BGB) has seized a large quantity of smuggled Indian goods in separate raids on the Sylhet border.

The goods were seized from border areas early on Tuesday (September 29).

BGB sources said members of the Banglabazar, Lafarge, Bisnakandi, Sreepur, Pratappur and Tamabil border outposts under Sylhet Battalion 48 BGB carried out separate raids on tip-offs from Monday night to early Tuesday. They seized Indian cattle, liquor, saris, cumin, chocolate, motorcycles and other smuggled goods with an estimated market value of Tk 7,133,980.

Confirming the seizure, Lt Col Md Nazmul Haque, commander of Sylhet Battalion 48 BGB, said BGB operations and intelligence work to maintain overall border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking were continuing, and the large haul was seized in raids at various border points as part of that. Further action on the seized goods under the law and prevailing rules is under way, he said.
