BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 46.5 lakh in Sylhet

Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) has seized Indian smuggled goods worth Tk 46,53,600 in separate raids on the Sylhet border.

The battalion’s commander, Lt Col Md Nazmul Haque, confirmed the seizures on Saturday. The raids were carried out early that morning in different border areas, and no one involved could be detained.

According to BGB, members of the Banglabazar, Tamabil, Utma, Bichhanakandi, Sangram, Pratappur, Sonarhat, Domdomia and Dibirhaor border outposts carried out separate raids on tip-offs from Friday night to early Saturday. They seized Indian cumin, cattle, blankets, body lotion, basmati rice, liquor, dried fish, chocolate, betel nut, sugar and other smuggled goods.

Lt Col Nazmul Haque said BGB’s operations and intelligence work to secure the border and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking are continuing, and the seizures were made as part of them. Further action on the seized goods is being taken in line with the law and regulations, he said.
