Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has stepped up special drives in the city to curb teen gangs, drugs, mugging and gambling.

In four straight days of operations, from Sunday night to Wednesday night, 227 people were arrested. Of them, 64 were released after signing bonds and the remaining 161 were produced in court.

SMP said on Thursday that the special drives were being carried out every night in different parts of the city. Of those arrested, 68 were held by Kotwali Model police station, 26 by Jalalabad, 28 by Airport, 70 by Dakshin Surma, 19 by Moglabazar and 16 by Shahparan police station. Two others were punished by a mobile court.
