A day-long training camp for selected workers has been held by the Sylhet city unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. It took place on Friday at a hall in the city’s Madina Market area.
The camp was chaired by Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, a member of Jamaat’s central working council and ameer of its Sylhet city unit.
In his address he said: “Jamaat workers must play an effective part in the field to fulfil the people’s aspirations. For that they must take the final oath and build a spirit of sacrifice for the aim of establishing the faith.”
He said: “Besides carrying out the organisation’s duties, they must show sincerity, devotion and responsibility in meeting people’s expectations. Alongside thinking of this world they must become used to a life directed towards the hereafter. Besides making themselves believers through a lawful livelihood, they must reflect Islamic ideals in their personal lives and work.”
He added: “There is no alternative to regular study and training to improve Jamaat workers’ ability, morals and organisational skill. The knowledge gained at the camp must be put to use in real life for people’s welfare. Besides standing by the helpless and deprived in society, they must play a responsible part in establishing right and justice. Everyone must rise above personal interest and work together to achieve the organisation’s aims and ideals.”
The camp was conducted by the unit’s secretary, Mohammad Shahjahan Ali. Other speakers included Hafiz Miftahuddin, nayeb-e-ameer of the Sylhet city unit; Dr Nurul Islam Babul, nayeb-e-ameer and mayoral candidate in the coming Sylhet City Corporation election; assistant secretaries Advocate Mohammad Abdur Rab, Zahedur Rahman Chowdhury and Maulana Islam Uddin; Advocate Jamil Ahmad Raju, president of the Sylhet city Sramik Kalyan Federation; Maulana Abdul Mukit; Dr Maulana AHM Solaiman; and Maulana ATM Shamsuddin.
Selected workers from various wards of Sylhet city took part.
