Police have arrested KM Farid Amin in a theft case. He was the Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) nominated candidate for parliament in Chauddagram, Cumilla, and is a member of the party’s central executive committee and convener of the Chauddagram upazila Juba Odhikar Parishad.
He was arrested early on Sunday at his home at Bangpail in Munshirhat union of the upazila. He is a convict in a case over the theft of a bank’s money.
Sub-inspector Abul Kalam of Chauddagram police station said Farid Amin had long been on the run after being sentenced to three years in a case over the theft of money from a bank in Mirzapur, Tangail. He was working as the bank’s driver at the time. He was arrested in a raid carried out on a tip-off.
Farid is also accused of beating his father. His father, Ruhul Amin, made a written complaint about this at Chauddagram police station on 4 December last year, and held a press conference on 8 December demanding that his son be punished.
