The admission test for the 2026-27 academic session at the country’s public and private medical and dental colleges will be held on 18 December.
Prof Dr Rubina Yasmin, additional director general (medical education) of the Directorate General of Health Education, confirmed this on Sunday (8 November). “The MBBS-BDS admission test date has been finalised for 18 December,” she said. “The admission notice will be published very soon.”
The government has decided to hold re-examinations from 1 December for students who failed one or two subjects in this year’s HSC and equivalent exams. Asked whether students who pass those re-exams can sit the medical and dental admission test, Prof Rubina Yasmin said the ministry would make the final decision; the directorate has not yet decided anything on it.
On the change of date, she said: “We had earlier decided, provisionally, to hold the medical and dental admission test on 4 December. But for various unavoidable reasons it was not possible to hold it on that date. Later, considering all sides, 18 December was set.”
Officials at the directorate said the official admission notice may be published in the next day or two, and online applications are likely to open between 15 and 18 November.
On 10 November last year, the health and family welfare ministry rearranged seats at all government medical colleges. It put the total at 5,100 seats in 37 government medical colleges, down from 5,340.
The country’s 66 private medical colleges had 6,293 seats. The ministry cut seats at 10 of them, increased them at two and left the rest unchanged, reducing private medical college seats by 292 overall.
