City corporation truck driver dies after Khulna road crash

Kamrul Islam, 40, a truck driver of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) who was injured in a road accident in Khulna city, has died.

He died at about 8am on Sunday while under treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

He had been seriously injured in a collision between two trucks at the city’s Joy Bangla intersection on Saturday afternoon.

Kamrul Islam was the son of Yakub Ali, a resident of the Shibbari intersection area of the city.

Md Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Harintana police station, said Kamrul Islam was driving a KCC truck carrying a waste container from Joy Bangla intersection towards Zero Point at about noon on Saturday. On the way the vehicle went out of control and hit another truck, and he was seriously injured. He was rescued and admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he died on Sunday morning while under treatment.

Md Selimul Azad, sub-assistant engineer of KCC’s mechanical section, confirmed that Kamrul Islam had been injured in the accident and later died in hospital.

Earlier, on 8 October, another driver, Abdus Salam, 48, was killed when he was crushed by a waste container vehicle in the KCC garage.
