The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has suspended the organisational post of Md Zahidul Islam Ratul, president of its Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) unit.
This was announced on Thursday in a press release signed by Md Jahangir Alam, office secretary of the Chhatra Dal’s central committee.
The release said that, by decision of the central committee, the post of the PSTU unit president, Md Zahidul Islam Ratul, had been suspended on an allegation of breaching organisational discipline. The Chhatra Dal’s central president, Rakibul Islam Rakib, and general secretary, Nasir Uddin Nasir, approved the decision.
On Wednesday a room was vandalised and students came to blows at PSTU’s A Keramat Ali Hall and in the Paris Road area of the campus, following a dispute between senior and junior students.
The dispute is said to have begun over a Facebook post between Shibbil Ahmed and Siam Ahmed, students of the 2023-24 and 2022-23 sessions of the faculty of business administration.
At least three or four students were injured. The door and windows of a room were damaged in the vandalism and a laptop was also ruined.
The Chhatra Dal’s release gave no specific details of the alleged breach of discipline by Zahidul Islam Ratul. Nor did it say clearly whether the suspension of his post is directly connected with the vandalism and scuffles at the university.
