The district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has expelled Nadim Mahmud, office secretary of the Chhatra Dal in No 1 Baldia union of Nesarabad upazila, after he was accused of taking milk meant for schoolchildren.

The decision was announced on Thursday night (1 October) in a notice on the party’s letterhead, approved by district Chhatra Dal president Salauddin Talukder Kumar and general secretary Mahmud Hasan Shaheen. It said he had been expelled from primary membership and all posts for breaching organisational discipline, and told members at all levels to have no organisational ties with him. He was also joint general secretary of the Chhatra Dal at Government Swarupkathi College.

According to local people and school sources, he was accused of taking 30 packets of milk kept for the school feeding programme at South Binna Kailantari Government Primary School in Nesarabad. When it became known, teachers, pupils and parents were angered, and he and two friends later went to the school and returned 27 of the 30 packets.

He had earlier said they drank three packets and did not know the milk was meant for the children, and that when they found out they collected the remaining 27 and returned them to the school.

The district Chhatra Dal took up the matter after it spread in the media and on social media. The school’s head teacher, Md Nurul Islam, has also been served a show-cause notice for the delay in informing the education office, and has been asked to reply in writing within three working days, upazila education officer Md Mainul Islam said.
