A six-member delegation from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has traveled to Iran to attend the state funeral of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The delegation departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday morning at the invitation of the Iranian government.

The delegation is led by Jamaat-e-Islami’s naib-e-amir Professor Mujibur Rahman MP. Other members include MPs Mohammad Nurul Amin, Dr. Mohammad Keramat Ali, and Dr. S.M. Khaliduzzaman; Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis MP Saiduddin Ahmad Hanzala; and National Citizens’ Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari.

The funeral ceremonies are scheduled to take place in multiple stages from July 4 to 9.

The delegation will express condolences and solidarity with the Iranian government and people, and hold courtesy meetings with Iran’s senior leadership and relevant government officials during the visit, Jamaat said. The visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding fraternal ties between Bangladesh and Iran.
