Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, has said the United States owes Israel for its very existence. His claim runs directly counter to recent remarks by President Donald Trump. Earlier, Trump said: “If I had not been there, Israel would not exist at all. Without US support, Israel could not have survived.”

In a speech delivered in Israel, Huckabee said: “Without its Jewish foundations, the United States would not exist. The history of this land has played an important role in the existence of the United States.”

Huckabee’s claim stands in direct conflict with President Donald Trump’s statements. Speaking at the annual G7 summit in France, Trump sharply and openly criticized the Israeli leadership. Trump said: “Without the United States, Israel would not exist. Without me, Israel would not exist, because no other president was willing to do what I have done.”
