SYLHET — Abdul Munim took the oath as chairman of Balaganj Sadar Union Parishad in Sylhet on Wednesday, ending nearly four years of legal disputes that had kept him from office.
District Magistrate Md. Sarwar Alam administered the oath at the deputy commissioner’s office on the afternoon of Aug. 27.
Digiazgi Subarna Sarkar and district BNP general secretary Emran Ahmed Chowdhury were among the representatives from various professions who attended the ceremony.
“Almighty Allah has helped me through every difficult moment of my life, and the people have given me their love,” Munim said after the oath. “Today’s swearing-in renews my commitment to working for the welfare of the people.”
Munim was elected chairman for the second time in the union parishad election held Nov. 11, 2021. His swearing-in had been delayed for years due to legal complications, a court stay order and opposition from rivals. The Supreme Court’s final ruling allowed the people’s mandate to take effect four years later.
