SYLHET — Iran Mia, 52, convener of the Bishwanath upazila Krishak Dal, was killed when a covered van struck his motorcycle in the Nazirbazar area of South Surma in Sylhet on Tuesday evening, police said.
The accident took place around 7 p.m. Dec. 23 as Mia was riding a motorcycle back to Bishwanath from Osmaninagar, when a covered van hit him, said South Surma police station officer-in-charge Khan Md. Mainul Zakir.
Mia was a former member of Ward 1 of Daulatpur union in Bishwanath upazila and a resident of Noyagaon village.
Witnesses said Mia was returning to Bishwanath by motorcycle after attending a party event in Osmaninagar when the covered van hit him in Nazirbazar. He was critically injured and died on the way to the hospital.
