BGB seizes 237 Indian cows, 42 buffalo at Goyainghat border

SYLHET — Border Guard Bangladesh seized 237 Indian cows and 42 buffalo worth about 3 crore taka (about $2.5 million) in a special operation along the Goyainghat border in Sylhet, the largest cattle seizure in the 48 BGB battalion’s history, officials said.

The anti-smuggling operation was carried out overnight Tuesday, Oct. 7, based on confidential information, along the Goyainghat upazila border in Sylhet and the Lafarge frontier in Sunamganj. The operation at Goyainghat was led by Maj. Nurul Huda, deputy commander of Sylhet’s 48 BGB battalion, and Goyainghat Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Omar Faruk.

Sylhet 48 BGB battalion commander Lt. Col. Md. Najmul Haque confirmed the details to Kalbela.

According to BGB sources, a special team led by Maj. Huda seized 237 small and medium-sized Indian cows from Itachaki village in Rustampur union of Goyainghat upazila. Separately, 42 Indian buffalo were seized along the Lafarge border in Sunamganj, which is also under the 48 BGB battalion’s jurisdiction.
