Police in Kuliarchar, Kishoreganj, have arrested a teenage boy and a young man with 4kg of cannabis in a search of a long-distance bus.

The two were sent to court in Kishoreganj on Sunday afternoon. The court ordered the boy to be sent to the child development centre in Gazipur.

They had been arrested on Saturday afternoon in the Dwariakandi bus stand area of Chhoysuti union in the upazila.

According to police and the first information report, a team from Kuliarchar police station, acting on a tip-off, searched a Mymensingh-bound bus at the Dwariakandi bus stand on Saturday afternoon. They arrested Sumon, also known as Sajal Das, 28, and a boy of 14, and seized 4kg of cannabis after searching a bag.

A case has been filed against the two under the Narcotics Control Act. In the case document the 14-year-old is described as a “child in conflict with the law”.

Mozammel Haque, officer-in-charge of Kuliarchar police station, confirmed the incident and said the search was carried out on a tip-off as part of regular anti-drug drives. The police’s firm stand and zero-tolerance policy against drugs will continue, he said.
