The Department of Narcotics Control has seized 35 bottles of an intoxicant drug from Chamrul Uttarpara in Tularampur union of Narail Sadar upazila, arresting a woman who was selling it.
The Narail district office of the Department of Narcotics Control raided the location around 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, acting on a tip.
The team arrested Shukuron, 57, with 35 bottles of Wincerex laced with codeine, but her husband Nur Mia, 64, fled, said Golok Mojumdar, deputy director of the Narail district office of the Department of Narcotics Control. The seized drugs are valued at about 1 lakh 75 thousand taka. Each bottle contains codeine phosphate, he said.
He said Nur Mia and his wife Shukuron had been selling various drugs from their home for nearly two years. A case has been filed against them at Narail Sadar police station under Sections 36(1) and 14(b) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Shukuron was sent to court around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The search for the fugitive Nur Mia continues.
Mojumdar said the department was carrying out such raids regularly to build a drug-free society, and similar operations would continue.
