12 hurt as homes, shops vandalized in Narail clash

At least seven homes and shops were vandalized in an attack by a rival group in Satbaria village of Narail’s Kalia upazila, in a dispute over land and local dominance, according to complaints. Twelve people were injured. Police have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.

The attacks took place in two phases, on Sunday (June 14) morning and on Saturday afternoon. The clashes stemmed from a feud between Saiful Faraji and Ruhul Faraji of the village. At least seven homes and shops, including those of Hayder and Sohag, were vandalized in the attack by the rival group. The attack was allegedly carried out by people loyal to Ruhul Faraji. Tin and cement roofing, fences, chairs, refrigerators, televisions, fans, furniture and other goods were damaged in the attack.

In addition, at least seven people of Saiful Faraji’s group were injured in the rival group’s attack on Saturday afternoon. They were admitted to various hospitals.

Meanwhile, fearing further attacks by the rival group, the men of Saiful Faraji’s group have left their homes and taken shelter in nearby villages. They want to return home and are seeking justice over the incident.

Denying the allegation, Ruhul Faraji of the rival group and members of his family said the rival side’s people attacked them over the land dispute. Five people of their group were injured, they said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rakibul Hasan said the clash stemmed from a feud between Saiful Faraji and Ruhul Faraji of Satbaria village in Narail over a land dispute. Police have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control, he said. The incident is being investigated and legal action is being taken.
