Narail: Police in Narail’s Lohagara upazila have detained a 30-year-old man over the killing of his 36-year-old wife in Chardighalia village, police said.

The man was detained from his own area on Monday night, June 15. The woman was his second wife, and her family home is in Narayanganj district, police said.

Police said the man told them his wife used to post videos on TikTok and exchanged various photos and videos with other men, which often led to quarrels between the couple. He strangled her on Monday morning, hung the body inside the house and left, according to police.

Sub-inspector (investigation) Ajit Kumar Roy said the man left the house at about 10 a.m. on Monday after locking the door, returned at about 5 p.m., opened the door and began wailing. Hearing his cries, family members and neighbours came forward, and police recovered the body after being informed.

The man initially tried to claim his wife had taken her own life but admitted to the killing during questioning, police said.

Police said the man told them he met the woman while working at a garment factory in Dhaka, and they married in 2021. It was his second marriage and her fourth, according to police. He later brought her to his village home in Chardighalia. His first wife and child had earlier left for her father’s house amid frequent family disputes. He now runs a tea stall in the local market and also works as a wood-cutter, police said.

Sub-inspector Ajit Kumar Roy said the man had hung the body inside the house to pass the death off as a suicide before leaving, but admitted to the killing during initial questioning. The woman’s family in Narayanganj has been informed, and the body has been sent to Narail District Hospital morgue for autopsy.
