Police recovered the body of Usman Gani, 46, from a pond bank in Daljitpur village of Shahabad union in Narail Sadar upazila. It is suspected that he died after falling from a tree while picking coconuts.
Villagers saw Usman’s body on Saturday morning, September 26, and informed police.
Usman Gani was the son of Abdur Rahman of the village.
Locals said they found Usman’s body on Saturday morning under a coconut tree on the pond bank behind Mamun’s house in Daljitpur village. He was wearing a lungi and vest. A bag containing seven coconuts was also beside the body. Locals suspect he died after falling from the tree while picking coconuts.
Usman’s sister Asiya said Usman lived alone at home. His wife is in Saudi Arabia and his two children stay at their maternal grandparents’ home. She saw Usman cooking at home around 10:30pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, locals also saw Usman drinking tea at the local Garuchira market around 12 midnight on Friday.
Narail Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Russell Sarwar said that after receiving the information, police recovered Usman’s body and sent it to Narail District Hospital for autopsy. The actual cause of death will be known after the autopsy report is received.
