A drawing and recitation contest for children and adolescents was held in Narail. The drawing contest took place on Friday afternoon, September 25, on the district Shilpakala Academy premises, and the recitation contest was held in the evening.
The contests were organized on the fourth day of a five-day book fair and cultural festival arranged by Bishwo Shahitto Kendro with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The children and adolescents beautifully depicted various themes with colors and brushes, including Bangladesh’s flag, rural landscapes, rivers, life and nature, autumn, and the history and heritage of Narail district.
Those present at the event included retired Khulna University teacher and artist Bimanesh Chandra Biswas, Narail Government High School teacher and artist Samir Bairagi, Bishwo Shahitto Kendro mobile library Narail unit in-charge Pradip Kumar Sarkar, mobile book fair in-charge Enam Hossain Morol, organizer Sohel Sarkar and many others.
Meanwhile, District Commissioner Dr Mohammad Abdul Salam inaugurated the book fair and cultural festival on Tuesday, September 22, around 10:30am on the Narail District Shilpakala Academy premises.
Pradip Kumar Sarkar, in-charge of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro’s mobile library Narail unit, said 250 children and adolescents took part in the drawing and recitation contests. The drawing contest was held in four groups from children to open level, and the recitation contest in three groups. The book fair is also being held every day from 12 noon to 7pm.
He also said different types of books on literature, knowledge, science, history and heritage are available at the fair. About 15 thousand books from different publishers are on display. Books from different publishers are being sold at discounts of 25 to 30 percent. The book fair will end on Saturday, September 26.
