A tree-planting programme has been launched by the upazila administration in Almdanga, Chuadanga, to protect environmental balance, tackle the adverse effects of climate change and increase greenery. Chuadanga-1 MP advocate Masud Parvez Rasel inaugurated the programme.

He launched the programme by planting saplings in the grounds of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office on Saturday (27 June).

At the event, MP Masud Parvez Rasel said there was no alternative to tree planting in tackling the adverse effects of climate change. Alongside government efforts, a social tree-planting movement must be strengthened to protect environmental balance and build a liveable country for future generations, he said.

According to the upazila administration, the programme is being implemented with additional allocation funding from the 2025-26 Annual Development Programme (ADP). Under it, fruit, timber and medicinal saplings will be planted in various unions of the upazila. The programme has been taken up to increase greenery and conserve the environment.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahinur Akter, along with upazila administration officials and staff, political party leaders and activists and locals, attended the inauguration.
