Several family members of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who were killed in the same strike will be buried alongside him during the state funeral ceremonies, Al Jazeera reported on Friday.
Among the family members to be interred are Khamenei’s daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and three-year-old granddaughter, who were all killed in the joint US-Israeli air strike on February 28.
Iran’s foreign ministry did not invite European countries that had supported the US-Israeli military operation to attend the funeral.
The state funeral ceremonies will span several days. Memorial gatherings were scheduled to begin the following day, with processions continuing to the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala before final burial rites in Mashhad, Khamenei’s birthplace. Delegations from approximately 100 countries were expected to attend.
