A drug case suspect died by hanging himself in the custody of Nikli police station in Kishoreganj. He was identified as Rubel Mia, 22, son of Raja Howladar of Sohorumul village in Karpasha union of Nikli upazila.
Nikli police station officer-in-charge Md. Mahbubur Rahman said Rubel was addicted to drugs. He was detained from his home Thursday morning around 8 a.m. under a case filed by his father and held in police custody. Sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., he removed his shirt and hanged himself from the cornice of the lockup. The OC said Rubel had previously served nearly three months in jail on a separate drug case.
He said an executive magistrate would visit the scene, speak with the family, and then decide whether an autopsy would be performed on the body.
His father, Raja Howladar, said Rubel had been abusive toward the family at home and had attacked the house with a machete. Fed up, he had recently filed a case at the police station. After Rubel was brought to the station Thursday, his father visited, fed him breakfast, and was on his way home when OC Mahbubur Rahman called to inform him of the suicide.
