Police have arrested a housewife over the assault of the headteacher of Farmpara Government Primary School in Chuadanga town, after she and her husband entered the school and struck the headteacher.
Chuadanga Sadar police station OC Mizanur Rahman said Mitali Khatun, 28, was arrested from her home in the Farmpara area Wednesday night. Her husband, Samsur Rahman Shuvo, remains at large.
Describing the incident, he said Mitali Khatun and her husband Samsur Rahman Shuvo went to Farmpara Government Primary School on Wednesday morning and slapped the school’s headteacher repeatedly.
The incident was captured on the school’s CCTV camera, and the footage later spread on social media.
That night, the headteacher filed a case at Chuadanga Sadar police station against Samsur Rahman and Mitali Khatun on charges of obstructing government duty and assault. OC Mizanur said both husband and wife were named as accused in the case.
Assistant teacher Sharmin Akter, a witness to the incident, said the national anthem was being performed during Wednesday morning’s assembly when a second-grade student — the daughter of Samsur Rahman and Mitali Khatun — got into an argument with another student standing behind her in line. The headteacher gestured for her to stop.
After the anthem ended, the headteacher called the student and the other pupil over and asked why they had been fighting. The student began arguing back with the headteacher. At one point, the headteacher slapped both the student and the other pupil to discipline them.
She said that after school let out, the student’s father, Samsur Rahman, and mother, Mitali Khatun, came to the school to ask why their child had been struck. This led to an argument with the headteacher. At one point, Samsur Rahman slapped the headteacher.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage later went viral on social media.
Asked about the matter, the headteacher of Farmpara Government Primary School said she had tried various ways to get the student to stop her disruptive behavior but was unable to do so, and was ultimately forced to give her a light slap. She said the child’s parents then came to the school and assaulted her, and that she has since filed a case at the police station over the incident.
