Delhi police have detained three top leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party: Abhijit Dipke, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. They were detained as soon as their aircraft landed at Delhi airport. Indian media reports say they were taken out through a private gate of the airport and then driven in a bus to an “undisclosed location”.

Citing police sources, the Indian outlet Ei Samay Online reported that Abhijit Dipke was being taken to Gurugram, Ashutosh to Dwarka and Sourav to a place within Delhi.

A video of the moment they were detained inside the aircraft has spread on social media. It shows several police officers boarding as passengers were getting off one by one after landing. Seeing them, Dipke says: “Look, they have come to arrest us on the plane itself! What they are doing, even Indira Gandhi did not do. This is authoritarian rule.” Some people in the aircraft chanted “Bharat Mata ki jai”. Dipke and his colleagues answered with “Inquilab zindabad”.

A woman police officer then told them: “Please come forward. Come with us.” Dipke replied: “I have come here to be arrested. Arrest me.” Delhi police then said: “You are not being arrested. Please cooperate with us.”

Police had earlier detained the YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and CJP leader Ratna Singh. The CJP has issued a statement demanding the release of its detained leaders.
