Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has been detained by police as he went to join the movement in support of the Cockroach Janta Party. He is president of the organisation Hum Bharat Ke Log. He was to have joined a protest in support of the party at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai, but Mumbai police detained him before that. His associates were also detained. He has been taken to DN Nagar police station.

Tushar Gandhi says he has been arrested. Police deny this and say he has only been detained.

Former Delhi minister Manish Sisodia has also been detained. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleges that a large police force has been deployed outside the home of former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal as well, and that the party’s headquarters has been sealed.

Police have also been deployed at the home of the CJP’s convener, Abhijit Dipke, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Many lawyers have been detained on their way to join the CJP’s programme, and the Supreme Court Bar Association has sought the top court’s intervention.
