US President Donald Trump has named Katie Zacharia as the next White House press secretary. Now working at Trump Media and Technology Group, she will be the sixth chief White House spokesperson of Trump’s two terms once formally appointed. She earlier served briefly as a spokesperson at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In a social media post on Friday, Trump described her as “loyal” and as a devoted supporter and member of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt left the post in August. Media reports say she has joined the US broadcaster Fox News.
Announcing the name on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “She was previously involved in my election campaign. She played a part in the important swing states in the election. We won seven states out of seven.”
Expressing the hope that she would do well in the new role, Trump also wrote: “I am sure that as the next White House press secretary Katie will bring excellent results for the country. She is respected by the media, the American people and my administration. She will work extremely well with everyone.”
Zacharia thanked Trump in a post on X. “At this important moment in the country’s 250-year history, serving President Trump and the American people is a supreme honour of my life,” she wrote.
She added: “Trump has shown America that we can be great again. He is working every day to make that a reality.”
She also said she was keen to work with the White House press corps and journalists across the country.
Zacharia, 42, is a political strategist and conservative commentator. She has worked at Newsmax and Fox News and has long been involved in Republican politics.
She worked as an intern at the Republican National Committee, and in 2006, under President George W Bush, she worked in the White House Office of Political Affairs.
In June she began work as senior communications adviser at Trump’s media company and the Truth Social platform, a role still shown on her LinkedIn profile. Before that she worked at the DHS from February to March.
