A boy of 18 months named Ratul has drowned in a pond beside his home in Madarganj, Jamalpur.
It happened on Sunday morning at Fazilpur village in the upazila.
Ratul was the son of Manjurul Islam Sohag Mia of the village.
Local sources said the family sat down to breakfast in the morning while Ratul was playing in the yard. When they finished eating they looked for him and could not find him anywhere, and began to search. After a long search the child was recovered from the pond beside the house. He was taken to the upazila health complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The child’s mother said: “We had sat down to eat in the morning. When we finished and looked for Ratul we could not find him anywhere. After a long search he was recovered from the pond next to the house.”
Nahiduzzaman, resident medical officer of Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, said the child had died before he was brought to hospital. This was confirmed after examination.
