Motorcyclist killed in Madaripur bus collision

MADARIPUR — A motorcyclist was killed and two others were critically injured when a passenger bus struck them in Madaripur, police said. Two others suffered serious injuries.

The accident occurred around 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in the Pathuriapar area of Dasar upazila on the Dhaka-Barishal highway.

The deceased, Md. Roni, 25, was the son of Mizanur Rahman Talukder of Karnapara in Baligram union of Dasar upazila.

The injured were identified as Rafiqul Faqir, 24, son of Siddique Faqir of Pantapara, and Mahfuz, 27, son of Md. Enamul of the Bhangabridge area. All three worked as masons.

Highway police and witnesses said Roni and his two associates were returning home after working as masons in Gopalpur in Kalkini upazila. As they reached the Pathuriapar area of Dasar upazila on the Dhaka-Barishal highway, a Sarbik Paribahan passenger bus coming from behind hit the motorcycle. Roni died on the spot. Rafiqul and Mahfuz were rescued and admitted to Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital. As their condition deteriorated, doctors sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Dr. Akhil Sarkar, an emergency department physician at Madaripur 250-bed District Hospital, said one person died and two others were injured in the road accident. The injured were not out of danger, he said. They were given initial treatment and transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Mamun Al Rashid, officer-in-charge of Mostafapur Highway police station in Madaripur, said the body had been handed over to the family. Legal action will be taken in the matter, he said.
