Madaripur girl rescued 14 days after abduction, 3 arrested

MADARIPUR — Police have rescued 14-year-old Tamanna Akter in Madaripur 14 days after her abduction. Three people, including the prime suspect in the abduction case, Subrata Haldar, have been arrested. The girl was abducted from the Kaliganj Bazar area of Kalkini upazila on Nov. 28. The rescued girl is the daughter of Ali Azgar from Mirakandi village in Alinagar union of the same upazila.

The detainees are Subrata Haldar, son of Sanjit Haldar of Dakshin Chalbal village in Nabagram union of Dasar upazila in Madaripur; Prashanta Haldar, son of Gobindo Haldar; and Nayan Madhu, son of Lakshman Madhu. Bellal Hossain, sub-inspector at Kalkini police station, confirmed the information Friday night.

Case and police sources said Subrata Haldar and two other young men forcibly abducted 14-year-old Tamanna Akter from the Kaliganj Bazar area on Nov. 28. The girl’s family filed an abduction case with Kalkini police. A police team led by Sub-Inspector Bellal Hossain raided the Savar area of Dhaka on Dec. 11 and rescued the girl. The main suspect, Subrata Haldar, and two others were arrested in the operation. They were sent to jail through the court Friday afternoon, Dec. 12.

Bellal Hossain, sub-inspector at Kalkini police station, said the rescued girl was sent to Madaripur’s 250-bed district hospital for medical examination. The three detainees were sent to jail through the court.
