JASHORE — The Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee has issued two separate show-cause notices to Sabira Sultana Munni, the BNP candidate for the Jashore-2 (Jhikargachha-Chowgachha) constituency, who is a member of the BNP central committee and president of the Jhikargachha upazila BNP.

The notices, signed by committee head Golam Rasul on Tuesday, Jan. 27, directed Munni to submit a written reply by Jan. 29, either in person or through an authorized representative.

The officers-in-charge of Chowgachha and Jhikargachha police stations have been instructed to immediately serve the show-cause notices on the candidate and submit a report on the service to the committee.

According to Election Complaint No. 01/2026, a written complaint by Tariqul Islam Tarek, press secretary to Jashore-2 Jamaat candidate Dr. Md. Mosleh Uddin Farid, alleged that on Jan. 25, 2026, around noon, supporters of the rival paddy-sheaf (Dhaner Shish) candidate attacked female campaign workers in Kirtipur village of Ward 5 of Jhikargachha municipality, while the women were canvassing for the scales symbol among female voters. According to the complaint, the attackers tried to molest the female workers by touching their bodies, humiliated them, and snatched and smashed their mobile phones. The attackers took the broken mobile phones away. They also robbed handbags containing cash, documents and other valuables from the female workers. The women were verbally abused, and when they later returned to canvass, they were threatened with death. The injured women workers were named as Rafiza, Nasima, Kamrunnahar, Tuli, Bilkis and Josna, among others, totaling 10 people. They have received initial treatment. The complaint also alleged that a group of 10 to 15 people, including Jubo Dal leaders Arafat Rahman Kallol, Sabuj, Ahnaf and Sohag, took part in the attack. The incidents described in the written complaint clearly violate Rules 15(c) and 15(d) of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2025. In view of this, BNP-nominated candidate Mst. Sabira Sultana has been directed to explain why a report with necessary recommendations should not be sent to the Election Commission for legal action over the violation of Rules 15(c) and 15(d) of the 2025 code of conduct. She has been ordered to appear in person or through an authorized representative at 3 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2026, at the Abhaynagar Civil Judge’s Court on the third floor of the Jashore District and Sessions Judge Court building, and submit a written explanation. Failing this, the committee will decide the matter without a hearing as per the rules. The officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha police station, Jashore, has been instructed to serve the show-cause notice immediately and submit a service report to the office.

Election Complaint No. 02/2026 stated that as a parliamentary candidate nominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party from constituency 86, Jashore-2, in the 13th Parliamentary Election, the candidate’s colored festoons, banners and posters used in the election campaign were seen pasted on walls in many places during an on-site inspection of various areas of Chowgachha upazila (sample photos attached), which violates Rules 7(c) and 7(e) of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2025.

The BNP-nominated candidate has been directed to explain why a report with necessary recommendations should not be sent to the Election Commission for legal action over the violation of Rules 7(c) and 7(e) of the 2025 code of conduct. She has been ordered to appear at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2026, at the Abhaynagar Civil Judge’s Court to submit a written explanation.
