NATORE — Farzana Sharmin (Putul), the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for the Natore-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara) constituency, has resigned from positions at four institutions to contest the election. She informed the media of the matter on Tuesday evening.
Under the representation of the people order, a person who holds an office of profit under the government cannot stand as a candidate in an election.
It was learned that Farzana Sharmin has resigned as legal adviser to the National University, chair of the governing body of Capital Law College, and independent director of Green Delta Life Insurance Limited and Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO). She has stepped down from these positions through formal letters.
Farzana Sharmin said she had resigned because of legal obligations. She added that she had also been unable to give proper time to these institutions due to her election commitments.
