GURUDASPUR, Natore — Imran Hossain, a young farmer from Rashidpur village in Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila, has created the shape of the national flag in his paddy field. Using rice plants, he has formed a red circle in the middle of a green field, recreating the country’s flag. His initiative has become the talk of the area.

Imran said his initiative came from love of country and of farming. He planted two varieties of rice on about 45 decimals of land to create this unique image. For the green section he used Pakistani Long Basmati rice, and for the red circle in the middle he planted purple-colored Purple Rice. From a distance, the flag drawn in the rice ears seems to sway in the wind.

Imran said: “Loving the country is not just words. Patriotism can be expressed through work. This field, to me, is a symbol of respect and love for the country.”

People of various ages are flocking to see his unusual work every day. Some take photos, some make videos, and many share Imran’s creative effort on social media.

Jamal Uddin, a visitor, said: “I came after hearing about Imran’s unusual initiative. I had never seen a flag made of living rice plants before. It really feels good to see it.”

K.M. Rafiul Islam, Gurudaspur upazila agriculture officer, said: “Imran’s initiative is not just patriotism, it is also a fine example of creativity in agriculture. Such initiatives will encourage young people toward farming.”
