An elderly man named Md Motiar Rahman Mallik, 65, has been killed after being run over by an Emad Paribahan bus in Rajapur, Jhalakathi. The accident happened at about 1:45pm on Thursday in the Mollarhat Bazar area of Shuktagarh union on the Pirojpur-Rajapur highway. Motiar Rahman lived in ward 8 of Shuktagarh union and was the son of the late Sirajul Islam Mallik.
Police and local sources said Motiar Rahman was crossing the road in the Mollarhat Bazar area at about 1:55pm when an Emad Paribahan bus coming from Pirojpur ran him over. He died at the scene.
Rajapur police went to the spot on being informed and recovered the body.
The bus was later seized with the help of local people and its driver, Shamsul Haque, 42, was arrested.
Rajapur police station officer-in-charge Sujan Biswas said police went to the scene as soon as they were informed and recovered the body. The bus responsible has been seized and the driver arrested, and legal action is under way.
