Police in Rajapur, Jhalakathi, have arrested two alleged drug dealers, one of them a leader of the upazila Jubo Dal.
They were arrested in a drive in the Dakshin Manoharpur area of the upazila on Tuesday evening.
The two are Md Zubayer Al Hasan Rasel, son of the late Babul Howlader of the Jaliabari area of the upazila headquarters and a joint convener of the upazila Jubo Dal, and Md Kamal Hossain Nayan, 33, son of the late Abdul Shukkur Howlader of Dakshin Manoharpur.
Police said the drive was carried out on a tip-off. Rasel and Nayan were detained and searched, and 20 yaba tablets were recovered. Police later filed a case against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
Rajapur police station officer-in-charge Sujan Biswas said: “The two arrested were sent to the Jhalakathi court on Wednesday morning.”
Meanwhile, Rasel has been expelled for involvement in activities contrary to law and order. The Jubo Dal central committee took the decision on Wednesday. The expulsion order says he has been expelled from all party posts, including primary membership, for involvement in activities contrary to law and order and to the organisation.
