10 more die from measles, suspected measles in 24 hours

DHAKA — Ten more people, all children, died from measles or measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services said Sunday.

One of the 10 died from confirmed measles, while the other nine died of measles-like symptoms, the directorate said in a news release.

Confirmed measles cases reached 95 in the past 24 hours, and 1,166 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide, it said.

From March 15 through Sunday, 50 people have died from confirmed measles nationwide and 244 from measles-like symptoms.

In that period, the total number of suspected measles patients reached 40,491 and confirmed measles cases reached 5,313, according to the directorate.

Four of those who died in the past 24 hours from measles or its symptoms were in Dhaka.
