The Election Commission (EC) has said the final voter list for the upcoming local government elections will be published on August 31. Instructions have already been sent to all upazila/thana election officers and registration officers.
The information came from a letter on the matter signed by EC senior assistant secretary Md. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury on Thursday.
The letter said the Election Commission has taken up an initiative to update the voter list ahead of various local government elections. For the purpose of updating the list, the eligibility qualification date under the voter list law has been set at July 31, 2008. Accordingly, the commission has approved a detailed schedule for including in the voter list those born on or before July 31, 2008 who are registered, or will be registered, in the database by July 31, 2026 — covering publication of the draft voter list, submission and resolution of claims, objections, and corrections, and publication of the final voter list.
The commission said the deadline for preparing the PDF of the updated draft voter list and sending it to the relevant field-level registration officer is August 4. The draft voter list will be published on August 9, the deadline for submitting claims, objections and correction applications is August 24, the deadline for the correcting authority to resolve claims, objections and correction applications is August 27, the deadline for incorporating decisions taken on those applications is August 28, and the updated final voter list will be published on August 31.
