Police have arrested Mitali Khatun, 28, the mother of a student, in connection with a case filed over the assault of the headteacher of Farmpara Government Primary School in Chuadanga town.
She was arrested from her home in the town’s Farmpara area around 3 a.m. Thursday (July 9). She is the wife of Samsur Rahman Shuvo.
Police said the affected headteacher, Kaberi Karim Suborna, filed a case at Chuadanga Sadar police station naming Samsur Rahman Shuvo and Mitali Khatun as accused.
According to the case statement and police sources, during Wednesday’s (July 8) school assembly, the headteacher disciplined a third-grade student for talking to a classmate, slapping the child. When the child’s parents learned of this, they went to the school, entered the headteacher’s office and assaulted her. Other teachers at the school then intervened and rescued the headteacher. The accused fled the scene after the incident.
Chuadanga Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the arrested Mitali Khatun has been sent to court. Police operations continue to arrest the other accused named in the case.
