Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met with U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa to discuss preparations for his upcoming U.S. visit and the security situation in southern Lebanon. Aoun is expected to travel to Washington soon at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

A statement from the president’s office said Aoun emphasized strengthening the existing ceasefire in southern Lebanon during the meeting. He also called on the United States to pressure Israel to halt its attacks and to fully implement the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement.

He further demanded an end to Israeli shelling and bulldozer demolitions in various occupied Lebanese towns.

Following the meeting, U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa said President Aoun’s Washington visit reflects President Trump’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability. He said a follow-up meeting involving representatives from Lebanon, the United States and Israel would be held in Rome, Italy, on July 14-15.

The ambassador also said a U.S. military delegation would arrive in Beirut within the coming days to coordinate the handover of several designated areas to the Lebanese army on a trial basis following the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
