Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has called on the opposition to present an effective plan for quickly resolving the gas and electricity crisis. He said that if the opposition has any plan to solve the gas and power problems within the next six months, it can submit it to the government, which will adopt it if it proves workable.

The prime minister made the remarks as chief guest at an event distributing financial assistance to poor and destitute people, held Saturday at the T&T Colony ground in Banani, the capital, to mark the 82nd birthday of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson the late Begum Khaleda Zia.

Addressing the opposition, Tareque Rahman said: “If you have any plan that can resolve the gas and electricity problem within the next six months, give it to us. We will certainly adopt it. I am throwing this challenge to you.”

He said: “The government is working to resolve the country’s power and gas problems. If the opposition has any effective plan in this regard, the government will consider implementing it positively.”

Criticizing the Awami League government, the prime minister said: “The previous fascist government left the country’s healthcare system weakened.” As a result, he said, people were forced to travel to a specific country to receive medical treatment.

Addressing Jamaat, the prime minister noted that the national parliament session begins on August 27 and called on the opposition to present any good plan it has in parliament.

He said: “If you have any good plan, present it. We will implement it.”
