The current government wants to work collectively with the opposition for the welfare of the country and its people, Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has said. He said the country’s democracy-seeking people have very high expectations of Parliament.
He made the remarks while speaking in the National Parliament on Thursday.
Acknowledging the country’s ongoing gas and electricity crisis in his speech, the prime minister said the entire country’s people are currently facing some hardship because of this problem. He said they had also expected cooperation from their opposition friends in resolving this national issue.
However, sharply criticizing street programs as a means of resolving the crisis, the prime minister said, “Yet we saw that a massive vehicle long march was organized. Various people outside were saying whether this was an attempt to needlessly agitate the public to do something else.”
Questioning the effectiveness of the long march, he further said, “If a vehicle long march could actually solve the gas or electricity problem, we would have been the first to organize one.”
In his speech, the prime minister placed special emphasis on mutual cooperation and constructive dialogue among political parties to make parliamentary democracy effective and to resolve the people’s fundamental problems.
