An attempt is being made to spread public confusion by circulating baseless information on social media under the headline “bodies of seven Awami League-Chhatra League leaders and activists floating in the Turag river,” Police Headquarters has said.

In a statement on Saturday (27 June) night, it said no such incident had actually been reported. Bangladesh Police urged everyone not to be misled by such false propaganda.

A quarter is engaged in an attempt to damage the morale of law-enforcement agencies by spreading such confusion, it said. Police are active in taking legal action against those spreading such confusion, and police are committed to taking appropriate legal action against anyone found to be involved in such propaganda.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, the banned Chhatra League and the Jubo League, among others, have been seen flooding social media with various banners, festoons and doctored images carrying pictures of bloodied bodies. Although many of their Facebook IDs have been identified, no legal action has been taken against them, it was learned.
