The Iraqi armed group Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI) has announced a bounty of $10 million on US President Donald Trump. The Iran-aligned group said on Thursday that anyone who kills Trump would be given the money as a reward. Calling Trump a criminal, the group said in a statement that the $10 million reward had been allocated from donations from its members and supporters, and that any individual, institution or group that kills “the criminal Trump” would receive it.
The statement said: “The world’s freedom-loving people will continue efforts to hunt down the killer of children and scientists. Tyrants will never find peace. That criminal will find no safe refuge from the anger of honourable people.” It called revenge a “binding pledge” for its fighters, saying: “The blood of the martyrs will become a curse that shakes the thrones of the arrogant, until the aggressors are defeated and the fortresses of tyranny collapse.”
According to Gulf News, at a recent White House meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, Trump said he had had a role in the 2020 killing of senior Iranian military commander General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Trump’s open acknowledgement was not taken well by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, and it was mainly after this that the group announced the bounty.
