A monitoring drive by the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate in the Farmpara and Belgachhi Railgate areas of Chuadanga Sadar upazila has fined two bakery and food-production firms a total of 35,000 taka. The drive, conducted from 11am to 1:30pm on Thursday (11 June), monitored the operations of various bakery and food-production firms.
The drive found some firms producing and storing food in unclean, unhygienic conditions, and complaints of marketing products using the BSTI logo without authorisation. Under section 43 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, M/s Noor Food Products of Farmpara — owned by Md Harun Or Rashid — was fined 25,000 taka, and M/s Sakil Chanachur, owned by Bitu Islam, 10,000 taka, for a total of 35,000 taka. The two firms were directed to correct the faults quickly and run production in a hygienic environment.
The drive was conducted by Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, assistant director of the directorate’s Chuadanga district office, with support from district sanitary inspector Md Golam Faruk and a district Ansar battalion team. The directorate said such monitoring and drives would continue in future to ensure safe food and protect the public interest.
